Abstract

WALFAJRI TRI PUTRA HAMKA 2025, UPAYA MENINGKATKAN PERFORMANCE DUAL FUEL GENERATOR GUNA KELANCARAN OPERASI PADA KAPAL FSRU KARUNIA DEWATA. The objective of this discussion is to improve the performance of the Dual Fuel Generator to ensure smooth operations aboard the FSRU Karunia Dewata. Additionally, the discussion aims to evaluate the performance and reliability of the generator within the ship’s operational system. By understanding the root causes of the issues, appropriate maintenance measures can be formulated, including preventive maintenance actions, to address the generator’s performance issues and prevent recurrence in the future. The incident discussed in this scientific paper occurred aboard the FSRU Karunia Dewata on May 7, 2022, while the vessel was operating at Benoa Port, Bali. Data collection was conducted by the author through direct observation of the Dual Fuel Generator used on board, including visual inspections and a comprehensive assessment of the main engine components. Based on observations of the Dual Fuel Generator system during operation aboard the FSRU Karunia Dewata, several facts and conditions were identified that form the basis of this paper. One of the main findings was a malfunction in the SOGAV (Safety of Gas Admission Valve), which caused a fuel gas trip in the generator system. It was concluded that the core issue lies in the spring valve component within the SOGAV. This component plays a critical role in limiting the opening and regulating the pressure of the solenoid valve. The problem occurred due to the spring valve becoming stuck, caused by the accumulation of carbon deposits (black crust). This buildup hindered the optimal performance of the SOGAV, resulting in failure to properly open and close the solenoid valve. Consequently, the fuel gas supply to each cylinder was disrupted, leading to an overall decrease in system performance.
