Abstract

Afifudin B. Ali, Navigation of SPB Morebaya III in the Nunes River Navigation Channel (Supervised by Egbert Edward Djayasasana and H. Makmur) The SPB (Self Propeller Barge) Morebaya III is a type of specialized bulk cargo vessel typically used for transporting specific liquids such as oil, chemicals, or other specialized cargoes. Navigating the shallow and narrow Fatala River Channel poses a serious challenge for the SPB Morebaya III when operating in that region. This channel is located in Guinea-Bissau, a country known for its long western coastline, natural beauty, and economic dependence on maritime transportation. However, several obstacles affect the smooth operation of this navigation channel and the SPB Morebaya III. Skilled navigation by the captain is required in all situations and job conditions to ensure that orders are executed effectively. This research was conducted on the SPB Morebaya III, and the data sources obtained were primarily derived from on-site observations during the author's work on the vessel, as well as literature related to the topic of this scientific paper. The results obtained from this research indicate that navigation errors during the passage through shallow channels hinder the navigation route and operational efficiency.
