Abstract

ROMEO, 2021. “Analysis of Decreased Freshwater Production in Fresh Water Generators onboard MV. Malahayati Baruna (supervised by Samsul Bahri and Mirdin Ahmad). Fresh Water Generator on board is one of the auxiliary machinery that can convert seawater into fresh water through a distillation process, namely evaporation in the evaporator and condensation in the condenser. This aircraft has a very important role in the smooth operation of the ship, where the operation of the ship cannot be separated from the need for fresh water. The purpose of this research is to find out the things that cause a decrease in the production capacity of Fresh Water Generators on ships. This research was carried out when the author carried out sea practice (prala) on the MV. Malahayati Baruna owned by PT. The Ark of Adhiguna cruise for 12 months, namely from July 17, 2019 to July 20, 2020. The source of the data obtained was data obtained directly from the research site with the observation method and also the library method in the form of documents, instruction manual books and books related to the title of the thesis. The results obtained from this study are the cause of the disruption of heat transfer to the Fresh Water Generator due to the presence of scale or crusts attached to the shell tube evaporator so that there is a decrease in heat transfer which results in the amount of fresh water produced having decreased from normal conditions.
